We concluded nine years of publishing Black speculative fiction in 2025! Our authors and poets continue to tackle genre convention, break fresh ground in tried and true tropes, and demonstrate why Black creators are among the best to weave a story. From contributors sharing their very first publication in our virtual pages to veterans deep in their publishing careers, every issue this year holds a story that will resonate with readers for years to come.

Looking back at 2025, we had plenty to celebrate:

1. A Special Reprint Issue:

Sinners, Saints & Haints guest edited by Eden Royce and Shakeema Smalls—out to prove that Black speculative writers have deep roots in the South, and this issue is a love letter to many of those stories told over the years. If you loved the movie Sinners, guaranteed there’s a story or an author in this issue who will be your new fave.

2. Award Nominations

Once again, FIYAH was nominated for the Hugo, Locus, and World Fantasy Award for their respective magazine categories. Go us!

Twenty two original stories and ten reprints. Eleven original poems and five reprints.
