Eight birthdays for FIYAH Literary Magazine! In that time, we’ve published 32 issues featuring the best speculative stories from Black writers all over the world, month after month, year after year. We’re not the only game in town for these talented word scribes, but we’re nothing if not consistent. That level of resiliency, we hope, is reassuring sign for people of color in our industry. May this flame never go out.

Here are some highlights from 2024:

1. Guest Editors Galore!

Nelson Rolon opened the year with Issue 29, a collection conspicuously dealing with death and the hereafter. Tonya R. Moore followed up with Issue 30, showing her affection for undersea tales. Emmalia Harrington anchored their stories in empowered leads for Issue 31: DISABILITY, and Kerine Wint spotlit our heroic matriarchs in Issue 32: SPACEFARING AUNTIES.

2. Award Nominations

Once again, FIYAH was considered for a Hugo Award and Locus Award. We didn’t win this time, but we’re always grateful for the recognition.

In 2024, FIYAH published four issues with 29 authors who shared 20 stories and 9 poems. These are works that our writers felt could be told here, with us. FIYAH is honored to have hosted these tales.

Here’s to 2025, a year that promises to be more interesting than any of us can imagine.

FIYAH Literary Magazine is eligible for 2024 semiprozine award categories.
